Lawn & Turf Repair
Revitalize your lawn’s first impressions and curb appeal with our specialized lawn repair services in Calgary. Many lawns suffer from damage caused by factors like heavy traffic from kids, pets, or parties, as well as overuse of fertilizer or herbicides. Our dedicated Slit Seeding service is the answer to repairing weak, bare, and thin areas of your lawn, restoring it to its lush and vibrant state.
Slit seeding, also known as drill seeding, involves the use of a slit seeder, a specialized machine that cuts shallow vertical rows into the soil. These rows are made in multiple directions, allowing the seed to be placed directly into them. This process ensures excellent seed-to-soil contact, optimizing germination and enhancing turf establishment.
Our mechanical drill seeding services use top-notch equipment, including the industry-leading Ryan The Mataway® Overseeder. This state-of-the-art machine precisely delivers seed to the soil slits, providing unparalleled seed-to-soil contact for successful turf establishment. Whether it’s a residential property, acreage, park, or highway, our range of slit seeders can accommodate various project sizes.
Compared to traditional broadcasting methods, drill seeding offers a higher success rate, making it the ideal choice for repairing damaged areas of your lawn. At Calgary Lawn Solutions, we take pride in bringing your lawn back to life, ensuring it thrives with lush, new growth.
Choose our mechanical drill seeding services for comprehensive lawn repair, transforming tired or damaged lawns into vibrant and resilient outdoor spaces.
In situations where drill seeding may not be practical, we offer an alternative solution. By removing the old, dead sod through a precision cutting process, we can replace it with top-quality fresh sod. Our commitment to excellence extends to sourcing the sod directly from the farm, ensuring that it is cut and installed on the same day. This approach guarantees the delivery of the freshest grass possible, revitalizing your lawn with vibrant and healthy new turf.
What is a sod cutter?
A sod cutter is a specialized machine designed to efficiently remove strips of grass from a lawn while retaining the roots and a significant portion of the soil. It is commonly used for rapid clearing of grass or weeds in a designated landscape area or for creating strips of sod that can be transplanted to new locations, allowing the roots to re-establish.
Typically equipped with a metal roller at its base, the sod cutter can be easily maneuvered over the lawn. Beneath the machine, sharp blades cut through the soil beneath the grass, enabling the removal of a strip after each cut. These blades are often adjustable, allowing for the cutting of sod strips in various thicknesses, providing flexibility to meet specific landscaping needs.
Types of Sod Cutters
Sod cutters come in both manual and gas-powered models to cater to different needs. Manual sod cutters operate by pushing a horizontal crossbar with your foot, driving the cutting blade into the ground. After the blade cuts through the soil, tilting the cutter forward levels it, and pushing or kicking it forward completes the process. While manual sod cutters may encounter challenges on rocky or uneven terrain, they are a suitable option for smaller areas.
On the other hand, gas-powered sod cutters are equipped with an engine, significantly reducing the effort required for operation. The engine powers both the roller, facilitating the movement of the sod cutter, and a cutting blade that moves back and forth to slice through the grass. With a gas-powered sod cutter, users only need to push it along, making it a more efficient option, especially for larger areas or challenging terrains.
Stages:
- In our sod cutting program, precision is paramount. The initial step involves meticulous measurement and marking, specifically identifying and delineating any sprinklers or objects susceptible to damage during the cutting process. This proactive approach ensures a careful and accurate sod cutting process that minimizes the risk of unintended impacts on essential elements within the landscape.
- Following the careful measurement and marking, the next phase involves the actual sod cutting process. We skillfully remove approximately 2-3 inches of sod and soil, cutting just below the surface. Once the sod is expertly cut, it is meticulously rolled up and disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. This thorough approach ensures a clean and precise execution of the sod cutting procedure.
- With all the sod successfully removed, the next step involves addressing any grading or soil issues present on the site. This preps the terrain, ensuring that it is optimally prepared before the placement of new grass or sod. This careful consideration of grading and soil conditions is pivotal in creating a solid foundation for the healthy growth of the new turf.
- Once scheduled, our projects typically take about one full day to complete on average. This efficient timeline ensures minimal disruption to your routine while swiftly delivering the desired results for your lawn.
